Our verdict
The AC Lite 50A is our best overall pick because it combines full 50 A output with a -40°F to 131°F operating range in a NEMA 4X (IP65) case, and adds Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet and load balancing between Autel chargers without extra hardware. Autel sells the same SKU through its US and Canadian stores, its store says it is CSA certified, and it is on the ENERGY STAR list.
What decides it is the install. It is hardwired only, and Autel’s manual asks for a licensed electrician and a new, dedicated non-GFCI two-pole breaker. A rotary switch sets 16 to 50 A: the manual pairs 50 A with a 70 A breaker and 48 A with 60 A, sized at 125% of the load, and lower settings suit smaller circuits. Where thunderstorms are frequent, Autel requires a surge protection breaker at the panel.
The catches are modest. Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only, though Ethernet is there if the garage signal is weak; whole-home load management needs extra hardware; and if you want to plug into an existing NEMA 14-50 outlet, Autel sells a separate 40 A Lite with a plug-in option. The warranty is three years, with a five-year option on Autel’s store.

Autel MaxiCharger AC Lite Home 50A questions
What breaker does the Autel AC Lite 50A need?
A 70 A breaker for the full 50 A. Autel’s manual pairs 16 A with a 20 A breaker, 24 A with 30 A, 32 A with 40 A, 40 A with 50 A, 48 A with 60 A and 50 A with 70 A, sized at 125% of the load, on a new dedicated non-GFCI two-pole breaker. Only a licensed electrician should install it, following local codes.
Can the Autel AC Lite be installed outside in winter?
Yes. Autel rates it for indoor or outdoor use in a NEMA 4X (IP65) enclosure, operating from -40°F to 131°F, where many rivals stop at -22°F. Outdoors, mount it at least 24 in above the ground; Autel recommends 33.5 to 45 in. Where thunderstorms are frequent, Autel also requires a surge protection breaker at the service panel.
Does the Autel AC Lite work with 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
No. The manual lists 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) only. The charger also connects by Ethernet, which helps where Wi-Fi is weak in a garage, and setup in the Autel Charge app starts by scanning the charger’s QR code and pairing over Bluetooth before it joins your network.
Can two Autel chargers share power?
Yes. Autel says Dynamic Load Balancing shares power between its chargers without extra hardware, and the charger’s internet light flashes green once it has joined a load-balancing network. Whole-home Adaptive Load Management, which also watches the rest of the house, needs additional hardware connected through the rear data port.
