Grizzl-E Duo Connect 40A

Best for two EVs

The tidy answer for two EVs on one 50 A circuit: two cables share 40 A. If both cars often need a quick charge, two chargers on two circuits suit better.

Our score: 7.6 out of 10 Research-based, not lab-tested

Updated

  • 40 A Max output
  • 25 ft Cable length
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity
  • 3 years Warranty

Pros

  • Two 25 ft cables from one charger on one circuit
  • Shares power automatically, or sets a fixed current per cable
  • Plugs into a NEMA 14-50 outlet; can also be hardwired
  • Also sold with J1772 + NACS or two NACS cables
  • UL and cUL listed; aluminum UL Type 4 case

Cons

  • 40 A total, so only 20 A each when both cars charge
  • Grizzl-E's US store prices it above two of its single 40 A chargers
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only
  • This 40 A model is not on the EPA ENERGY STAR list
Best for
Two-EV households with one 50 A outlet or circuit and overnight parking, where 20 A each is enough.
Not for
Homes where one car needs fast turnaround while the other charges, or that can run two circuits.

Our verdict

If two EVs share a garage and the panel has room for only one 50 A circuit, the Duo is the neat solution: one charger with two 25 ft cables. One car alone gets the full 40 A; with both plugged in, the manual lists 20 A each, shared automatically or set as a fixed current per connector. A DIP switch lowers the total to 32, 24 or 16 A for 40, 30 or 20 A circuits.

It ships with a NEMA 14-50 plug, and the manual describes an optional hardwired connection by a licensed electrician. Where code requires GFCI protection at the outlet, it asks for a 20 mA GFCI breaker, since a 5 mA type can disrupt charging. Grizzl-E sells two-J1772, J1772 plus NACS and two-NACS versions; this listing is the two-J1772 model. The aluminum UL Type 4 case is rated from -22°F to 122°F, and the Grizzl-E Connect app runs on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

The trade-off is speed and cost: 20 A per car suits overnight charging but is slow for a nearly empty battery, and Grizzl-E’s US store prices the Duo above two of its single 40 A chargers. It is UL and cUL listed, with a 3-year warranty (five as a paid option), and we track Grizzl-E’s US and Canadian stores for it.

Grizzl-E Duo Connect 40A questions

How fast does the Grizzl-E Duo charge two cars at once?

At up to 20 A each, from a 40 A total on a 50 A circuit. The manual lists 20 A per connector when both cars charge, using automatic power sharing or a fixed current per connector, and one car alone can take the full 40 A. A DIP switch inside the cover lowers the total for a smaller circuit.

Can the Grizzl-E Duo be hardwired?

Yes. It ships with a NEMA 14-50 plug, and the manual describes an optional hardwired connection, which must be made by a licensed contractor, licensed electrician or trained installation expert. Hardwired or plugged in, the total stays at 40 A on a dedicated 50 A circuit, and the manual’s circuit table still applies.

Can the Duo charge a Tesla and a J1772 car?

Yes, if you buy that version. Grizzl-E sells the Duo Connect 40A with one J1772 and one NACS cable, as well as two-J1772 and two-NACS versions, in Classic and Bear editions. This listing is the two-J1772 model, so check the cable combination before you order.

What breaker does the Grizzl-E Duo need?

A dedicated 50 A circuit for the full 40 A total. The manual pairs 40 A with a 50 A circuit, 32 A with 40 A, 24 A with 30 A and 16 A with 20 A, each on a double-pole breaker of the circuit rating, with the total set by a DIP switch inside the cover. Your electrician follows the code edition adopted where you live.
