Wallbox Pulsar Plus

A compact, well-connected charger for tight US garages. Its 104°F limit rules out sun-exposed installs in hot climates; load management needs an extra meter.

Our score: 7.6 out of 10 Research-based, not lab-tested

Updated

  • 25 ft Cable length

  • 3 years Warranty
$699

Pros

  • Compact: about 7.8 x 7.9 x 3.9 in and 4.4 lb without the cable
  • 48 A hardwired; 40 A plug-in version with a NEMA 14-50 cord
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, OCPP 1.6J and over-the-air updates
  • Current set from 6 A in 1 A steps in the app, or by rotary switch
  • Several Pulsar Plus units can share power (Power Sharing guide)

Cons

  • Load management and solar charging need the separate Power Meter
  • Rated only to 104°F; an owner we read reports desert-sun overheating
  • Owners we read report a 2025 firmware fault, since pulled by Wallbox
  • No Canadian safety mark stated, so not a pick for buyers in Canada
Best for
US garages short on wall space, and homes adding solar or a second Wallbox who will buy the Power Meter.
Not for
Buyers in Canada (no Canadian mark stated), and sun-exposed outdoor installs in hot climates.

Our verdict

The Pulsar Plus suits a tight US garage that wants a capable app: Wallbox lists it at 7.8 x 7.9 x 3.9 in and 4.4 lb without the cable, yet it has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, OCPP 1.6J and over-the-air updates. It comes as a 40 A version with a short NEMA 14-50 cord for a 50 A circuit, or a 48 A hardwired version on a 60 A breaker; a rotary switch sets the limit to suit the breaker, and the app can trim it from 6 A in 1 A steps. Hardwiring and any new circuit or outlet must be done by a qualified electrician, or the warranty is void.

Load management and solar charging need Wallbox’s Power Meter, sold separately. The NEMA Type 4 case is rated -22°F to 104°F, below the 122°F that ChargePoint, Emporia and Grizzl-E list, and Wallbox says to avoid direct sunlight. One owner we read reports outdoor units in desert sun faulting from heat, which fits that rating.

Owners we read also report a 2025 firmware update that set off charge faults until Wallbox pulled it, while several describe one to three or more years without problems. The warranty is three years. It is UL listed, but we found no Canadian mark, so we list it for US buyers only.

Wallbox Pulsar Plus questions

What breaker does the Wallbox Pulsar Plus need?

It depends on the setting. Wallbox’s guide pairs each rotary-switch position with a breaker: 16 A on 20 A, 20 A on 25 A, 24 A on 30 A, 32 A on 40 A, 40 A on 50 A and 48 A on 60 A, on a new dedicated two-pole breaker. Units ship at the 48 A position, so the installer sets the switch to match the breaker; the 40 A NEMA 14-50 version needs a 50 A circuit.

Can the Wallbox Pulsar Plus be installed outdoors?

Yes, but keep it out of hot sun. The NEMA Type 4 enclosure is rated for indoor and outdoor use, yet the operating range tops out at 104°F and Wallbox advises avoiding direct sunlight. In a hot climate, a shaded wall or the garage is the better spot. Mount it with its bottom at least 18 in above the floor.

Does the Pulsar Plus need anything extra for load management?

Yes. Dynamic load management, which slows charging when the house draws more, and solar charging both need the Wallbox Power Meter, sold separately and installed in the electrical panel. Sharing power between several Pulsar Plus units is covered by its own installation guide, and an electrician should do any panel work.
